Methodology
To gain information for our audience research our group created a short survey using the website http://www.surveymonkey.com/. We then sent the survey to people we knew and also posted it on Yahoo! Answers. The survey consisted of a total of 10 questions about lighting, costume, location, camera techniques.
Results
Only 20 people took the survey of which 14 were male and 15 were 18 or below. The majority of people said that night and evening were the most effective times for a horror film, that the opening sequence is influential in a horror film, and that the protagonist and antagonist should feature in the opening sequence. The responses were mixed regarding the question about the effectiveness of the title font. Most of those who said it was effective simply said that the font helps introduce the genre of the film to the audience. Dark clothes were chosen as the best clothes for an antagonist to wear, and we will film at dusk and at night as our results show that those are the most suitable times for horror films.
Evaluation
The Yahoo! Answers distribution method was disappointing because not as many people had done the survey as hoped. Although we originally thought that 20 results was a disappointing number it turns out that it's actually pretty decent. The audience research was useful in helping us to prioritise certain details to do with developing the characters and setting the scene.
